Stark and Wolford Represent BSU at Fort Wayne
On Saturday, January 16, two lone Ball State Fencing Club members traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana to compete in the Summit City Fencing Club D & Under tournament. The turnout for this event was fantastic, with all three weapon categories qualifying to be D1 rated events; Epee with 20, Foil with 18, and Sabre with 20. Recently, the USFA reclassified the requirements for a tournament to qualify as a D1 event; there must be 4 E-rated (or higher) fencers present, and 2 of those 4 must place in the top 8.
Tyler Wolford was the only Ball State fencer to compete in Epee during the day. He played strongly through his pool bouts to earn the 15th seed for DE’s, but was knocked out during the initial round, finishing him in 17th place overall for the day.
Bill Stark represented Ball State in the Foil event. Despite a few set backs with equipment, Stark managed to come through on top, winning 3 out of 5 pool bouts and earning himself the 5th place seed for DE’s. Bill was knocked out at the start of a long day of scoring upsets which dropped him down to finish in 11th place for the day.
